OTFCA: Trumbull County
TAG (Trumbull Action Group) Drug Task Force
The TAG Drug Task Force is a multi-agency law enforcement task force. We are a major crimes unit that investigates drug traffickers, gangs, firearm traffickers, and Homeland Security issues. The process to form TAG began shortly after September 11, 2001. TAG consists of Trumbull County Sheriff’s Deputies and other local law enforcement officers. TAG enlists the assistance of federal and state law enforcement agencies in the pursuit of our mission. TAG strives to improve quality of life issues by reducing crime in our communities.

John L. Elberty, Commander
I am currently a Staff Captain at Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, Warren, OH, as of JAN 06, 2025; Sheriff Mike Wilson. In addition to the TAG position, I oversee the Detective Bureau, and am building out a Training Unit within the agency.
Prior to this, I was a Youngstown Police Department, Youngstown, OH Officer, retiring with the rank of Detective Sergeant with 33 years of service. I spent the majority of my service time as an FBI Violent Crimes Task Force TFO. The last four years I had various assignments within the Department as Training OIC / Fiscal Officer / Detective Division.
During this time, as a collateral duty, I was a member of the Mahoning Valley Crisis Response Team SWAT; I finished my time there as the Commander for 15 years with 31 years total service, Larry M and Tyrone H and myself had some great times on that unit together.
I also did 20 years in the Ohio National Guard as an MP with several deployments, retiring as a Master Sergeant.
From a training perspective, in addition to all of the countless hours spent training and conducting training with these units, I am an OPOTA Instructor / OTOA Red Team Instructor / NA 241 Graduate and other various other organizations.
That being said, and Larry M will attest to this, I actually work from a standpoint that I do not know anything about anything, with way more experts out there, especially in the drug field. That bio is only for those who want to know the perspective of a newcomer sending long emails. So anyone who wants to participate, has ideas, completed work, etc. get up with me. I learn everyday at 57 years old and welcome a group effort.
Thank you for your time.
